Update for the Event

Early plans are put into motion to bring Posidonia back to life in Athens, Greece in 2024 as organisers are hopeful the coronavirus pandemic will be managed by then. The new dates for the physical edition are slated for June 3rd – June 7th at the Metropolitan Expo. At present, Greece does not have travel or domestic restrictions in place.

Posidonia has been the go-to shipping exhibition for the Greek shipping industry experts since its introduction back 1969. Today it’s recognized as a major platform for international transportation experts to meet, network, purchase and exchange expertise in the face of an ever-changing industry due to economic, political and environmental reasons. You have the full breadth of product on display from different boat models, catamarans, dinghies, sailing boats, rescue boats, yachts and rowing boats to technologies, components and spare parts. Trade visitors have access to the entire Greek fleet, which is the world’s largest merchant fleet. That’s not an opportunity anyone in the marine sector should let slip through their fingers, as this means lucrative deals in the millions. We also want to highlight that Poseidonia is much more than a purely business event. Before even business proceedings begin there’s a series of competitions such as the Posidonia Cup sailing regatta and the Posidonia running event.

Arrives at sunny Athens, Greece every two years to bring the latest and most groundbreaking in the shipping industry. Editions occur on even years and last for a total of five days in early June. Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. organises the prestigious international shipping exhibition, which takes place out of the modern facilities of Athens Metropolitan Expo. Doors are open to professional visitors only and working hours are scheduled for 10:30 am in the morning until 19:00 pm in the early evening, though these times are subject to change. Also be aware that these times don’t apply to the sports events scheduled around the exhibition. Athens Metropolitan Expo is conveniently located right at Athens International Airport “Elefterios Venizelos” in Spata. The exhibition grounds have excellent connections to the metro and suburban railway system for an easy commute to the city.

What Are People Saying

  • “We have really enjoyed this year’s event. It’s been very busy and very active and we are very impressed with the continued strength of the Greek shipping community which owns 17 percent market share of the fleet globally, a very impressive record which has grown over the last ten years by 13 percent,” – Stephen Gordon, Managing Director, Clarksons Research;
  • “Posidonia 2018 is much busier, bigger and better than previous years. I know so many shipping industry professionals from China who all came this year. It is fantastic, much better than the previous years,” – Steven Zhang, Head of Repair & Conversion Department, COSCO Shipping
  • “It’s always fantastic to be at Posidonia, for us it’s the event of the year and it’s lovely to be a part of. The quality of the exhibition and its visitors is very high, it gets better and better every passing year. All the various seminars and conferences have helped raise Posidonia’s profile and we are seeing much higher footfall of high level maritime officials and executives passing by our stand,” – Nick Brown, Communications Director, Bureau Veritas

Audience & Statistics

There are major sponsors for the exhibition such as the Union of Greek Shipowners and the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy. It’s a reason why Posidonia has been performing so good. It also helps that the Greek fleet is the biggest there is in the world. Greece now operates 20% of global and 50% of European capacity in terms of shipping and that’s the biggest draw for shipbuilders, marine service providers, experts, engineers and suppliers of marine equipment and information technology. Last edition saw more than 2000 exhibitors and 23,000 trade visitors from 104 countries and territories.
