Husum is fast becoming a pivotal hub for the renewable energy sector in Europe. Known primarily for its annual New Energy Husum Trade Fair, the town has established itself as a critical meeting point for stakeholders in renewable energy, from industry giants to startups. The trade fair covers the full spectrum of renewable energy technologies - pellet heat pumps and geothermal energy, hydro, photovoltaic, and small wind energy. If you want to see the future of energy solutions, then this is where you need to direct your attention. In 2014, the fair hosted 300 exhibitors from 15 countries across four exhibition halls, spanning 16,000 square meters. Attendance soared to over 15,000 visitors from 25 countries, including national and international trade visitors and consumers from Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and Lower Saxony. The fair performs an additional role as a forum for learning and professional development. The special lecture program includes integrated information on passive houses, career opportunities in the renewable energy sector, and pathways for education and training. Its conference highlight, the World Summit for Small Wind, attracted key players from the national and international small wind industry. Aside from the direct innovation in Husum’s energy industry, there are other major developments that contribute to the city achieving a circular economy.
