Parma is one of the biggest hubs for the embedded systems industry in the country thanks to its hosting of SPS Italia, an annual international trade fair for electric automation technology. Held at Fiere di Parma, the event attracted over 40,000 visitors, all eager to explore the latest advancements in Industry 5.0. This year’s focus on sustainable and human-centered technologies highlighted the fair's role as a critical touchpoint for the Italian manufacturing sector. SPS Italia distinguishes itself by offering a comprehensive presentation of products, spanning from individual components to complete systems. The product portfolio at SPS Italia covers six distinct areas: drive systems and components, mechanical infrastructure, sensor technology, control technology, industrial PCs, and industrial software. This broad spectrum ensures that visitors experience the full breadth of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. The event features numerous talks and presentations. At the inaugural plenary meeting, Raffaele Spallone, Director of the Business Digitalization and Productive Sector Analysis Division at MIMIT, emphasized the transformative potential of the Transition Plan 5.0. This plan focuses on developing digital goods and reducing consumption, thereby enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of Italian manufacturing. In the Education Area, Anna Brancaccio, Director at the Ministry of Education and Merit, engaged students with exciting insights into the technologies showcased at the fair, inspiring the next generation of industry leaders. A highlight of the fair was the presentation of the second edition of the position paper titled Towards a Human-Centric Digital Transformation, authored by the show’s Scientific Committee. The paper provides an overview of the current state of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, offering specific insights into technological changes that prioritize human-centric design and sustainability. This aligns with the broader goals of SPS Italia, which aims to shape the future of manufacturing by harnessing advanced solutions for the benefit of humanity.
