Parma, best associated with its automotive sector and status as a tourist destination, is also making a name for itself in the realm of industrial electronics. This transformation is driven by multiple forward-thinking companies such as Mate and GEI Elettronica. Mate’s journey began in 1999 in Collecchio, a small town in the Parma province. Founded on the synergy of diverse yet complementary skills, Mate focused on providing outsourced electronic design services and assistance to local companies. This collaborative approach allowed Mate to quickly enhance its expertise and specialization across multiple sectors. As consultancy grew in significance, so did Mate’s ambition to deliver comprehensive electronic solutions. The move to the Sala Baganza headquarters in 2003 marked a significant milestone in Mate's evolution. This transition facilitated rapid and consistent growth. GEI Elettronica, founded in 2001 in Parma, emerged with a vision to design and manufacture electronic equipment for industrial applications. Situated in the heart of Italy’s Food & Motor Valley, GEI quickly carved out a niche in the acquisition, management, and conditioning of analog signals. The company specializes in designing highly customized control cards tailored to the specific needs of its customers. In 2003, GEI expanded its horizons with the establishment of the Geotechnical Engineering Division. This new division focused on the design, manufacture, and global marketing of branded dataloggers for monitoring geotechnical, hydrological and meteorological data. The next stage of evolution came with the creation of Earth System S.r.l. in 2011, a startup specializing in geotechnical engineering instruments, through a joint venture. This move was followed by the formation of ASE S.r.l. in 2013, a university spin-off developed in collaboration with the University of Parma. ASE S.r.l. holds a proprietary patent on an inclinometer chain utilizing MEMS technology, highlighting GEI's focus on cutting-edge research and development.
