For more than 50 years, Nor-Shipping has been the beacon for innovation in the maritime industry in Northern Europe. The international exhibition was founded in 1965 and now is at the forefront of innovation on several fronts like innovative ship design, young entrepreneurship and energy efficiency.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that every category of value is represented in these halls. The thematic halls are as follow – IT & navigation, Safety & rescue, Shipbuilding & repair, Maritime services & logistics, and Propulsion & machinery. This wealth of product elevates Nor-Shipping to a central hub for new launches and purchases.

Nor-Shipping, as organisers often like to say, sits at the heart of the oceans, so it makes perfect a perfect sense to have this exhibition take place in Lillestrom, Norway. Norges Varemesse wears a variety of hats not just as an official organiser, but also as the event host.
The exhibition usually is a biennial event put together at the start of summer every odd year. Editions last four days and are held at the start of June. Doors are open to both professionals and the general public. Hours are the same for everyone – 10:00 am in the morning until 17:00 pm in the afternoon during the first three days and 10:00 am until 15:00 pm on the very last day. Commuting is a bit tricky since Lillestrom is a smaller city, but official visitors have public transportation with VY/NSB & Ruter that not only extends to the town, but also Oslo city area and between Oslo & Oslo Airport.
Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Middle East – these are all the major regions that saw visitors and exhibitors come and showcase to Nor-Shipping. The audience reached 47,000 visitors in total counting everyone who came to the exhibition halls, enjoyed the festival street and joined in on all the various conferences and additional events. Together they represented 85 nationalities.
In terms of exhibitors, USA and Canada, the UK, China, Italy, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany and South Korea were some of the main markets with national pavilions. The number of exhibitors exceeded 900.
In total there were 220 supporting events, which drew in a lot of public interest and since doors were open to everyone there was a sizeable portion of the general public in attendance as well. As far as professionals go, you could meet with ship owners and managers, shipyards, maritime organisations and port authorities.
After a nearly three-year hiatus, the 2022 edition of Nor-Shipping marked the successful return of the trade show and maritime industry. The event took place at the NOVA Spektrum between 04.04.2022 and 07.04.2022 as a hybrid event. It attracted 592 exhibiting companies from 34 countries and more than 21,000 visitors from 83 countries. Approximately 8,000 participants visited the social venues alongside 900 maritime leaders. Participants were quite pleased, with many verifying their participation for 2023. For example, 95 percent of exhibitors are 'assured' to participate in the following edition. Similarly, 90% of visitors guaranteed their participation in the 2023 edition. Eighty percent of the participants were executives at the management level.
The 2023 edition of Nor-Shipping improved upon and continued the success of the 2022 format. The event was hosted as a live trade show at two venues between 06.06.2023 and 09.06.2023. The event sites were the Oslo Stock Exchange and the Lillestrøm Exhibition Centre. Over 50,000 participants attended the event, including 892 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors.
What Can You Expect as an Exhibitor?
- Commitment to sustainability and the environment. Nor-Shipping has a firm stance on the way current practices are failing the environment and calls for the industry for change. The exhibition has sustainability principles which it promotes in order to develop a sustainable ocean development through aligning itself with the UN Sustainable Development Goals;
- Hunger for innovation. Supply meets demand. Demand inspired supply. It’s these two big forces that have turned Nor-Shipping into a generator of new ideas on all levels. You don’t see it just in the cutting-edge equipment and technology on display, but also experience its echo in all related sectors;
- Attention to exhibitor needs. The exhibitor is king during Nor-Shipping and nowhere else will you ever find such modern facilities as those within the 21,000 square metre exhibition space. What this has in turn produced is a high pedigree of those who exhibit including a great variety of national pavilions.
