Abf & COVID-19
The coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to host Abf 2021 as there was no official approval to host large trade shows early at that point. Deutsche Messe regretted the decision to cancel the fair. The organiser also regrets the decision to cancel the in-person edition that was to take place in 2022. The causes for the annulation of the 2022 edition include the increasing infection rates caused by Omicron. They also include the changing travel restrictions put in place by governments. Currently, organisers are in the process of preparing Messe Hannover for the 2023 live edition. The rendition will be hosted between 1.02.2023 and 5.02.2023. The exhibition grounds will employ the latest and best in COVID-19 protective measures. It is compulsory for all attendees to comply with all guidelines and safety protocols. The protocols will include the 3G entry policy. Attendants of the fair will be asked to show documents such as proof of recovery before entering Messe Hannover. Because of the newly instated travel bans, such papers must be shown upon arrival in Germany as well.
The German travel and tourism market is one of the most active in Europe as Germans enjoy going on hikes, camping, cycling and general travel. The best way to reach the widest audience is to go to Abf – one of the biggest trade shows aimed at the regional travel market. It is the place to see all new trends and destinations for the outdoor, leisure, and travel sectors. Established in 1978, Abf (or auto, boot und Freizeit, which translates to car, boat and leisure time) has been serving the German market faithfully and has been the source of many new trends. Travellers and nature enthusiasts all come to Abf because they have a full line-up of products. There are car accessories, water sports articles, motor vehicles, caravans, bicycles, sports and fitness equipment, e-bike cargo bikes, BMX, paddles, paddleboards, e-skateboards, hoverboards and e-scooters among many more.
The international travel show makes its way to Hannover, Germany every single year. Editions are held early in the year at the start of February in order to give visitors choices and inspirations for the whole year ahead. Programming lasts for five days in total, and Messe Hannover is open to all people, from professionals to the public. Right now, Abf is co-run alongside BIG, another major show for building, real estate, gardening and furnishing. Work hours are set for 10:00 in the morning – 18:00 in the evening. Deutsche Messe AG always delivers a dynamic show. Getting to Messe Hannover is easy. The fastest way to get to the exhibition centre is with tram lines 8 (also stops at Hannover central station) and 18. The light rail services the airport and central station, so you have an easy way to get from the airport to the city centre and Abf in no time.

• “The power workout sold out very quickly, and that shows us that events like this really enrich our trade fairs. The participants all had a lot of fun, and we will definitely continue,” - Klaudia Kohl, Abf project manager
