Exhibitions in UK for Film & Media

The UK film industry won’t be slowing down its roll, when it comes to its financial success. As of 2022, it leads Europe as the premier entertainment and media market, boasting £97 billion in revenue. In 2022, total spending on film production in the UK reached an impressive £1.97 billion. A thriving ecosystem comprising approximately 16,000 companies involved in film and video production underscores the industry’s vitality. Moreover, the sector’s performance translates into substantial job creation, supporting 86,000 jobs in 2020 with 75% engaged in movie production and distribution. The film, television and video sectors collectively contributed £12.6 billion to the UK economy in 2019, marking a notable 35% increase since 2014. The UK's creative output encompasses a diverse range of genres. There were 281 feature films produced in 2019 alone, which spanned dramas, documentaries and comedies. While London remains the epicenter of the industry, other regions like Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow have emerged as significant production hubs. Supported by regional governments and boasting top-notch infrastructure, these locations offer attractive incentives for filmmakers. Manchester, in particular, shines as an up-and-coming creative center, which houses facilities like Screen Manchester, Space Studios and The Sharp Project. Bristol, known for acclaimed television series like Doctor Who and Sherlock, further enhances the UK’s creative landscape. Facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, UK film production companies have adapted by implementing remote working and filming protocols to ensure the safety of their teams. Further financial support comes from the Film Tax Relief scheme run by UK government, which offers up to 25% cash rebate on production budgets. Even with so many advantages, the UK film industry faces stiff competition from international counterparts. The rise of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video has also spurred a shift towards producing content tailored for digital platforms.
