!!! Important !!! The 2020 edition of Gamescom has been officially cancelled by the organisers due to coronavirus.
The video games industry has no intent on slowing down its growth. It seems that the entire world is playing some fort of game and the industry has moved beyond PCs and game consoles into new worlds including unlocking the full potential of interactive games, VR and AR. Gamescom, though you are likely to encounter it stylized as gamescom, ranks as the largest gaming trade fair that’s held into the world. We’ll launch into the statistics of it all later, but suffice it to say there’s a lot of attention paid to this international trade fair. Visitors have access to the entire product value chain extending to computer games, console games, hardware, repair service, handhelds, mobile, mixed reality, eSports, communication technology, promotional items, software, cleaning utensils and associated paraphernalia.
The Association of the German video game industry (game – der Verband der deutschen Games-Branche as you’ll encounter it in Germany) organises Gamescom every single year with editions held around August. Each trade fair is held for four days in total for both trade visitors and general public at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. Gamescom is typically an all-day kind of event with a lot of programming items taking place, so be sure to check out working hours once the fair program for the current edition is announced. Koelnmesse can be accessed through a variety of transport options with drivers having an easy time thanks to the connection to a highway and there are also several commuter train lines that stop there.
