Exhibitions in Frankfurt am Main, Germany for Bicycles

Within the industrious bicycle market in Germany, Frankfurt asserts a strong position as a chief business platform when it comes to breaking news and facilitating business. All due to its hosting duties of Eurobike, which centers itself as the primary cycling trade fair in the country. The most recent edition of the fair generated considerable headlines. This is in no small part to the Eurobike Business Talk, which brought industry leaders together to dissect the impact of global events on the bicycle market. From the reverberations of the pandemic in Asia to Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, the discussions delved into the complexities shaping the industry's landscape. It also brought attention to the local market. Burkhard Stork, the general manager of Germany's Zweirad Industrie Verband (ZIV), highlighted a pivotal moment in the German bicycle industry. In 2021, domestic production witnessed a historic shift as the number of e-bikes surpassed that of conventional bicycles with 1.4 million e-bikes and 0.9 million conventional bicycles produced. The German bicycle industry faced formidable challenges in 2021 – strained supply chains, shipping delays, component shortages and a skilled labor deficit. Contrary to reports of a market slowdown and product scarcity, though, the industry showcased incredible resilience. The first two quarters of 2022 witnessed production levels sustaining, offering a beacon of hope amid ongoing adversities. Looking ahead to bicycle and e-bike sales, a nuanced picture emerges. Burkhard Stork anticipates a marginal dip in numbers but a sustained turnover. Leasing models emerge as a key factor, facilitating the sale of high-end models. However, lower-priced segments grapple with waning consumer confidence. The outcome is a rising average price for bicycles as customers are more likely to invest in an expensive model they can trust over more budget-friendly bikes. Sensitivity to price hikes intensifies at lower price points.
