The recent Prolight + Sound event brought much attention and business to the lighting industry in Frankfurt, once again proving why Frankfurt is Germany’s main financial and business hubs. The latest edition of the exhibition dedicated to event and entertainment technology attracted around 25,000 visitors from over 100 countries. Prolight + Sound was a veritable showcase of cutting-edge technology and solutions spanning light, audio, stage, media, and events sectors. The event’s format, which included outdoor stages, live performances, and DJ sets, created an immersive environment where technology could be seen and fully experienced. The emphasis on interactive and live demonstrations allowed attendees to witness firsthand the transformative power of new lighting technologies in various settings. The event also served as a springboard for knowledge exchange as approximately 62% of the attendees were decision makers in their respective fields, while 25% were under the age of 25. This mix of experience and youthful energy created a fertile ground for discussions on current challenges and future opportunities, which greatly benefited the lighting industry in Frankfurt. A significant trend highlighted at the event was the increasing focus on sustainability in lighting design and technology. This aligns with a broader shift in the industry towards reducing environmental impact while enhancing efficiency and performance. The lecture and conference programs included discussions on sustainable event practices, reflecting a growing commitment within the industry to incorporate green solutions. In addition to sustainability, the integration of AI and immersive systems into lighting was a key topic of interest. These technologies are going to revolutionize how lighting is used in events and installations. The concept of light as a material, rather than just a tool, was explored through various specialist lectures and workshops. This shows a clear change in how lighting is conceptualized in design processes.
