The metropolitan region, known for having the highest density of industrial parks in Germany, thrives as a key player in the biotech industry, representing its largest business field. It’s only natural that the city of Frankfurt also actively participates in building this reputation. The FiZ offers laboratory and office spaces, nurturing smaller companies to contribute to the industry's evolution. VCI, representing the economic interests of 1650 German chemical companies, adds to the city's prestige as a knowledge and advocacy center for the industry. At the heart of Frankfurt's biotech industry is the Höchst Industrial Park, which accommodates 90 businesses and counting, and employs more than 22,000 professionals. The Industrial Park dates well back to the industrial revolution, when it first opened its doors as a tar dye factory, and has now completed a thorough transformation into a thriving chemical and pharmaceutical business location. The park's rich history includes milestones like the introduction of the first synthetic medical substance in 1883 and the collaboration with renowned physician Robert Koch, which further helped propel the mass production of vaccines and insulin. Today, Sanofi manufactures up to one million insulin pens daily. As thousands of dedicated professionals in Frankfurt continue to research, develop and distribute products in pharmaceutical and industrial biotechnology, the city's biotech legacy is secured. With a dedication to innovation and a history of breakthroughs, FrankfurtRhineMain cements its status as a biotech powerhouse shaping the future of the industry.
