Exhibitions in Essen, Germany for Arts & Crafts

Essen has always been considered as a hub of artistic expression and creativity, which can be seen in the long tradition of arts and crafts in the city’s history. Arts and crafts mark the beginning of one of Essen’s oldest museums – the Museum Folkwang. Founded in 1902, the Museum Folkwang has evolved into one of Germany’s most celebrated art institutions. Today it boasts exceptional collections spanning the 19th century to contemporary photography and showcases the evolution of artistic expression over the decades. Its modern building, designed by David Chipperfield, stands as a testament to Essen's commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage. But it all began as a personal collection of natural history relics and traditional arts and crafts! This is the role arts and crafts plays in the city’s history and Essen’s modern arts and crafts industry is further supported by Mode Heim Handwerk (MHH), which captivates attendees with the sheer volume of products on display. Mode Heim Handwerk is, to put it plain and simple, a celebration of community and collaboration. With over 30,000 visitors in 2023, the event serves as a meeting place for craftsmen, artists and enthusiasts alike. Live workshops, interactive demonstrations and the innovative ""Junge Wilde"" concept highlight the boundless potential of arts and crafts in Essen. Whether exploring DIY floristry or sampling regional specialties, attendees experience firsthand the spirit of innovation and tradition that defines Essen's arts and crafts scene. The 2024 edition promises to deliver an unforgettable winter adventure. As part of the MHH experience, visitors will explore four immersive environments brimming with creativity, activity, and style. This annual event, held at Messe Essen, offers a unique platform for over 400 exhibitors to showcase their latest innovations in home, hobby, and lifestyle products. MHH celebrates the diversity of craftsmanship and creativity in the Ruhr region.
