The decorations industry in Leipzig is comparatively smaller to major economic hubs in Germany like Munich, Cologne or Berlin. The city’s connection to the sector is the hosting of the specialized trade fair, MUTEC, which is a highly anticipated event for the museum and exhibition technology sector. In 2024, the trade fair has undergone significant transformations to better cater to its diverse audience. Aimed at museum operators, exhibition planners, architects, consultants and restorers, the fair offers a comprehensive range of products and services encompassing museum technology, visitor services, media presentation, infrastructure, décor and digitization.
Since its inception in 2010, MUTEC has run concurrently with denkmal, Europe’s leading trade fair for preservation, restoration and old building renovation. This partnership has enhanced the event's appeal, making it a vital meeting point for international experts. One of the standout features of MUTEC 2024 is the introduction of a new hall concept. For the first time, an entire hall at Leipziger Messe will be dedicated solely to MUTEC. This expansion allows for a brand new demonstration area and a more streamlined exhibition space. The additional room will showcase innovative products and solutions for museums, science centers, archives, libraries, theaters, and other cultural institutions. The lighting room will provide specialized information on lighting for museums and stages, ensuring that every aspect of museum technology is covered.
In response to exhibitor feedback, MUTEC 2024 will be condensed into a two-day event instead of the traditional three days. This adjustment has already yielded positive results, with high registration levels reported more than six months before the fair. Prestigious companies such as Frank Europe, New Amsterdam, Beckerbillet, TLS Boca Systems and Meder CommTech have confirmed their participation. Their presence underscores the event's reputation as a premier international trade fair for museum and exhibition technology.
