The yachting industry in Berlin has always been competitive and quick to rebound following any economic shrinkage. It’s bounced back almost instantly since the pandemic and BOAT & FUN is a key barometer for the health of the industry. The prestigious trade fair empowers Berlin-based companies within the yachting sector to stand out and vie for leadership positions in the country, and beyond. BOAT & FUN outlines the next major changes to come out of the sector through the Best of Boats (BOB) Award ceremony, which is now in its tenth edition. In 2023, an international jury recognized the pinnacle of motorboat excellence across seven categories, which also included a groundbreaking debut in the realm of electric boats. Daniel Barkowski, project manager for BOAT & FUN BERLIN, articulated the significance of the award’s anniversary, affirming its pivotal role in guiding consumers in their boat purchases. Stefan Gerhard, the man behind the Best of Boats Award, reminisced about the truly extensive evaluation process in selecting winners over the past decade. The team has the major undertaking of testing thousands of boats, which has to be distilled to 211 finalists from 24 nations over the course of the award’s history. This year's awards ceremony witnessed the introduction of two new categories. The inaugural Best for Electric category celebrated the finest in pure electric and hybrid electric boats, which is a big win for sustainability. Additionally, the Best for Performance category recognized the superiority of superboats as winners were judged on speed and performance. As the yachting industry evolves, the Best of Boats Awards continues to serve as an industry benchmark that affects consumer tastes. With each passing year, the ceremony reaffirms its mission to celebrate the finest vessels while charting a course towards a more sustainable and exhilarating future on the water.
