Germany’s refrigeration appliance industry shows no sign of stopping in the decade following the end of the pandemic. The market, valued at $4.99 billion in 2021, is projected to reach $6.19 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 3.52%. In terms of volume, the market is expected to expand from 7.2 million units in 2021 to approximately 7.7 million units by 2028. Refrigeration appliances are essential for food preservation. With evolving consumer lifestyles and increasing urbanization, the demand for advanced cooling solutions continues to rise across Germany. The market is being driven by a surge in demand for larger-capacity appliances, the integration of smart technologies, and growth in the housing sector. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, German households have demonstrated a preference for more spacious refrigeration units. This trend has been particularly evident in the rising popularity of fridge freezers and refrigerators with capacities exceeding 595 liters (21 cubic feet). Additionally, side-by-side refrigerators with dispensers and multi-door fridge freezers, particularly four-door models, are seeing increased adoption. These advanced refrigeration units offer enhanced storage capacity and greater functionality, and meet consumer demands for convenience and efficiency. Moreover, as smart home technology continues to gain traction, refrigeration appliances are becoming increasingly interconnected. Many modern refrigeration units now feature remote monitoring, temperature control via smartphone apps, and energy efficiency optimizations, making them more appealing to tech-savvy consumers. Despite these growth drivers, the German refrigeration industry is facing significant challenges due to persistent material shortages. The supply chain disruptions, exacerbated by global geopolitical tensions and the lingering effects of the pandemic, have created bottlenecks in manufacturing processes. According to a survey by the IFO Institute in July 2022, approximately 73.3% of companies in the sector reported facing difficulties in procuring raw materials and intermediate goods.
