The cosmetics industry continues on the ongoing trends in skincare towards anti-aging products and treatments, but it’s going beyond simple creams and serums. The emerging trend in skincare right now aims to make cells behave younger. Regenerative medicine centers on developing new therapies that aid the body in healing itself. Stem cells, known for their ability to transform into various cell types like skin, cartilage or bone, are the main player in this approach. Stem cells are currently utilized in oncology to assist the body in producing new blood cells after chemotherapy sessions. While it may sound like science fiction, there are already methods to not only make the skin appear younger but also act younger. Platelet-rich plasma injections, using a person's own blood cells and plasma, have shown promise in accelerating healing and improving skin conditions. A small study published in the journal Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine suggested that PRP injections could enhance the appearance of wrinkles, pores and hyperpigmentation by encouraging collagen production. Nanofat injections, a newer phenomenon, involve harvesting a mix of cells, including stem cells, from a person's own body fat. Recent studies published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine explored the potential of nanofat injections in improving skin tone and texture. While there’s evidence suggesting visible improvements in fine lines and wrinkles a year after treatment, researchers emphasize the need for further studies to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of this technique. At the current moment, regenerative medicine is in its nascent stages and a lot more research needs to be done in order to tap into the full potential of what’s on offer. Yes, youthful appearance is still the most desired result from skincare and scientists are working on pushing that work beyond the current conventional methods.
