LIBER 2023

Update for the Event

LIBER 2023 will take place as a live event between 04.10.2023 and 06.10.2023. The International book fair will take place at the IFEMA Madrid. The venue will not have stringent COVID-19 prevention measures put in place. This is because of the removal of the country's domestic restrictions. Spain does not have travel limitations in place for the time-being.

Introduction

LIBER Madrid is one of the most influential trade fairs for books and literature in Europe and also the biggest book fair targeting the Spanish book market. The international trade fair was first held in 1982 and since then has become a major hub for publishing houses to meet, form trends and build bridges between different regions and countries. LIBER Madrid has always been associated with a boom in promotion and sales numbers within the book industry after its run, and is where new authors are amplified to better visibility. Logistics

LIBER Madrid is one of two sister events, which fly under the brand of LIBER. The trade fair is an annual event, which takes place in October, but is split between two locations – Madrid (which falls on odd years) and Barcelona (which falls on even years). Respectively, the two fairs are put together by IFEMA Feria de Madrid and Fira de Barcelona, which are also the hosting venues. Each edition runs for a total of three days and is open to trade visitors. The Spanish Association of Publishers Guilds (FGEE) is the major promoter for the event. The opening hours are from 10:00 am until 19:00 pm all three days. Now onto the subject of getting to the exhibition grounds. The fastest way to get to IFEMA Feria de Madrid is the metro (line 8), but there are also four bus lines, which service the exhibition grounds – 73, 112, 122 and 828.

• A collaboration between the ICEX and the Spanish Economic and Commercial Office in Miami will make it possible for the trade fair to host the United States Librarians Mission, which is one of the major pillars of the program.

Past Editions

2021

The 39th rendition of LIBER included 8,360 trade visitors. This showed the significance of face-to-face meetings. The in-person event took place between 13.10.2021 and 15.10.2021 at IFEMA Madrid. The expo included strict COVID-19 security measures, including participants showing valid health certificates.

2022

The 40th edition of LIBER was hosted in a face-to-face format between 05.10.2022 and 07.10.2022 in Fira Barcelona. The venue did not feature coronavirus safety precautions due to the country lifting its domestic pandemic-related restrictions. Over 130 speakers, 8,500 visitors from approximately 60 countries and around 300 exhibitors attended the event. The visitor group included 450 key buyers as well as foreign representatives who constituted for 40% of the group.
