Introduction

The apparel and textile industry is in continuous cycles of innovation and technical advancement and no other international trade show better encapsulates this movement than Munich Fabric Start, which is held in Munich, Germany. It’s been in operation since 1996, when the very first edition was held only 50 exhibitors participated. Of course, in the two decades since its start, the show has grown into a massive testament of the fashion and textile innovation. The entire space is divided into eight exhibition spaces across five halls that offer a complete overview of the full value chain from the FABRICS exhibit, which showcases fabric collections at all price points, to BLUEZONE, which is dedicated to denim, street- and sportswear suppliers, and ReSOURCE, which places a strong focus on sustainable fabrics and accessories.

Logistics

Munich Fabric Start follows a biannual schedule with editions held first in February and then in September. The international trade show lasts for a total of three days per average and takes place at the MOC Veranstaltungscenter in Munich, Germany. Munich Fabric Start opens its doors to the professional community only and Munichfabricstart Exhibitions GmbH acts as the chief organiser. Working hours are from 09:30 am in the morning until 18:30 pm in the evening on the first two days with the third day wrapping up at 16:00 pm. The MOC Veranstaltungscenter has significant connections to public transport as it takes only twenty minutes by the underground railways with several commuter train lines to choose from. There are connections from the Munich airport to the centre as well, including the opportunity to schedule a direct shuttle bus from the airport to MOC.

What Are People Saying?

  • “The MUNICH FABRIC START has shown very clearly that this fair format is convincing as a strong industry platform in times of changes and major challenges. Thanks to the professionalism and sovereignty of all those involved, the necessary responsibility to approach the reorientation of the market constructively and in a solution-oriented manner has been created,” - Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director MUNICH FABRIC START;
  • “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Munich Fabric Start. The Bluezone and Keyhouse, in particular, were eye-opening for me and I was very impressed at the number of suppliers working with innovative new technologies and methods to produce in more sustainable ways,” - Theresa Austin, Advisor AKOJO MARKET;
  • “The largest portfolio of sustainable products is on display here in Munich. Such a broad spectrum in this density cannot be found anywhere else. All major suppliers are on-site. In addition, there is an excellently staffed accompanying program of panels and discussion rounds. The acceptance of sustainable topics is increasing all the time, which is a very positive development overall,” - Claudia Lanius, LANIUS.

Audience & Statistics

Munich Fabric Start occupies a particular spot in the garment and textile industry in Europe as it is a centre for innovation and a place to make purchases. An edition registers the presence of over 1000 suppliers from 35 countries, mostly located in Europe, but with representation from Central and East Asia. Organisers report that audience attendance often exceeds 20,000 international trade visitors, which given its twice-per-year status appeals to exhibitors with ambitions to grow their buyer networks. Visitors are often divided into the following groups – designers, buyers, engineers and product managers, and their main goal is not just to network, but also do market research and drive innovation through a mix of demonstrations, special exhibitions and innovative displays that reveal new technological achievements.
